The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) announced on Friday that the deadline for submitting GSTR 3B returns for September has been extended by one day to October 21 despite taxpayers reporting slowness in the GSTN portal. The 20th of every month is typically the deadline for submitting GSTR 3Bs.
“The GST Implementation Committee of GST Council has approved extending the deadline for monthly filers to submit their GSTR-3B returns for the month of September 2022 from October 20 to October 21. The CBIC tweeted on Friday that the notification in this regard is in the works.
The technology infrastructure for the goods and services tax is provided by the GST Network (GSTN), whose service provider is the IT firm Infosys (GST). A GSTR-3B return, including zero returns, must be submitted by a GST-registered person.
On Thursday, the CBIC posted on Twitter that it had received a report from GSTN about system slowness along with a suggestion to extend the due date. In order to prevent the taxpayer from having to pay late fees or interest, we are continuing to closely monitor the situation and are reviewing the proposal for an extension in consultation with the GST Council.
Due to technical difficulties earlier this month, the income tax department had to extend the deadline for submitting tax audit reports for the fiscal year 2021–2022 by seven days, to October 7.
